5 Ways to Integrate NLP Into Your Copywriting

You don’t have to call it NLP if you makes you feel “icky” inside… but some words DO get results. Here a few quick and easy ways that you can start implementing “selling” words into your copy today.

1. Use Positive Language

The human mind finds it much easier to focus on positive rather than negative outcomes. Using positive outcomes, you can help a person see the benefits of moving toward your desired positive result.

Examples:

A negative phase like “lose weight” can be changed to a positive result like “become healthier and more active”.

Instead of saying someone should “stop stressing out”, you can encourage them to “enjoy life”.

2. Seduce Their Senses

Some adjectives don’t add meaning to your copy. You can easily delete them. However, using sensory adjectives related to sight, hearing, touch, smell, and taste can add power to your writing by helping your readers’ experience.

Examples:

Sight:    You’ll see a huge difference in your new rock-hard abs after our 30-day trial.

Hearing: Listening to our headphones is like being in the middle of a symphony, but from the comfort of your own home.

Touch: Leather seats so soft, you’ll think you’re in a car three times the price.

Smell: Wake up every morning to the fresh aroma of our premium coffees delivered right to your door.

Taste: From our fresh tomatoes to our handpicked basil, you’ll savor the flavor each bite.

3. Engage Their Imagination

When someone reads your writing, their subconscious mind can’t easily tell the difference between reality and what’s being vividly described to their imagination. By engaging your readers’ imagination using all of their senses, you can start to change their behavior in a way that gets them to want to take action.

Example:

Imagine the thrill of seeing your commission check after selling a million-dollar home.

4. Put Them in a “Yes” State of Mind

Ending a sentence with a tag question like “isn’t it?” makes it difficult for the reader to disagree. Using tag questions early in your sales copy can change the reader’s frame of mind from “No” to “Yes”.

Examples:

Writing copy is a lot of fun, isn’t it?

It makes sense that after reading this post, most people will start using these techniques, doesn’t it?

5. Influence Your Reader’s Subconscious

Embedded commands in your writing can act as cues and embed an idea or influence the person at a subconscious level.  These commands are hidden in the text, but they get people to take action in a subtle way.

Examples:

I wouldn’t tell you to _______, because you _______.

I wouldn’t tell you to order my e-book today, because you can get all five books for half price at midnight.

You may well notice how _______ it feels when you ______.

You may well notice how wonderful it feels when you ace the algebra exam after reading my Super Guide to All Things Algebra.
